Playing center in college doesn't count because some people on these boards said it doesn't.

it's very difficult to make the wing-to-centre transition when you've played wing your entire pro career.

Doesn't hurt to give it a try I guess. I like that he's got a good attitude about doing whatever they need him to do. It sounds like he's going to come to training camp prepared.

What do you think is harder? Turning into a centre after being a winger your whole career...or getting the grease out of your hair?

whats the draft like next year because this looks like a hail mary by burke and we all know how 99% of those passes end.

If he was 30+ sure, but he's only a few years removed from playing college hockey. I'm not saying he's going to jump back into the position without missing a beat but it's not like he doesn't know how to play it. It might be a disaster, who knows, but considering Toronto's needs, it's worth trying it out.

You want one of the first two picks. You would break your own goalies knees to get one of them if all you needed to do was lose a game or two down the stretch.

McKinnon is going to be awesome.

he's spent 3 years of hockey not playing center.

It's not like converting Kaberle to center here... it's a guy who used to play it, who didn't play it because he was on a team stacked at center, and who now has a chance to go back to his original position.

Let's not write him off before he gets a chance.

unless of course your twenty years as a hockey player, two of which were at a college level (which you are only a few years removed), you played centre.
worth a try.
I have no idea why people think it is beyond the realm of possibility that a 23 year old may still be able to learn new things about the game of hockey.
